"The power of a picture defies words. The power of a professional behind the camera, able to work and deliver to deadline to the most demanding authorities- is surely worth thinking about."

Award-winning photographer Stewart Cunningham is Great Scot's owner and principal photographer. A youthful veteran, he has a lifetime's worldwide experience taking in every kind of photography and social situation. Stewart has been almost everywhere; done nearly everything. And done it brilliantly

By background, he's a press photographer, which means he speaks the language of hard-nosed professionals while maintaining a sympathetic, human touch.
The wealth of experience gained amid the sharp realities of newspapers has equipped him to deal with the 'civilian' aspects of his craft, such as marketing,PR, glamour and design.

Stewart was born in Glasgow in 1956. For almost as long as he can remember he has been fascinated by photography, and first started developing and printing his own pictures at the age of 14, having been introduced to the chemical process during a second-year science class at school. He went straight from school to the Glasgow College of Building and Printing, where he gained two diplomas in photography. His first professional work was undertaken during this time, working weekends as a part-time wedding photographer to help finance his studies. That was an early 'baptism' for an 18-year-old photographer. His first full-time job was as staff photographer on the 'Helensburgh Advertiser' in 1978. In 1982 he packed his bags and headed off to Australia, quickly finding full-time work with 'News Ltd', the largest media group down under. Once established in the international press community, Stewart spent time in Hong Kong covering south East Asia and was later posted to South Africa. After a final spell working out of New York, Stewart returned to Scotland in 1986 and set up Great Scot Photography to provide specialised photographic services for Scottish companies. His photographs have been published in many of the British national papers including the Financial Times, The Times, The Independent, The Telegraph, The Observer, The Guardian, Scotland on Sunday, The Sun, The Record, The Evening Times, The Scotsman, The Herald and a host of other newspapers and magazines worldwide.

The savvy built up in the physical management of a company, coupled with an undoubted and proven edge in photography - corporate, private and for publication - means that clients get the best of both worlds. Stewart: "A photograph is a representation of an individual or a company, and it is vital that it is planned and executed in the most expressive way. I am determined to keep right up there with the ever changing media technology, plus media and business knowhow, so that Great Scot Photography will get the very best pictures for clients.

"I will be updating my web site on a regular basis, but in the meantime please do not hesitate to call with any queries. I would also advise a visit to the studio, where any problems you may have can be resolved over a cup of coffee. Thank you very much for your interest."
